SPARTANBURG, S.C – Running Back Stephen Davis didn't practice with the team in the morning because head coach John Fox wants to give him a rest and thinks that it will help him later on down the road.

"Stephen has done an outstanding job for us. He has had an excellent camp. He is a veteran player that we rested this morning. After eight practices, it was time to let him get his legs back," said Fox. It is my job as the head coach to monitor where they are individually and as a group. When I think it is best suited for our organization to rest them, I rest them."

Fox feels that Davis gives the Panthers a proven running back that will be a big time player in the Panthers offense.

"He is a proven guy in this league at a very, very high level. Last year was really his only bump in the road, and I am not sure that was all due to him as much as it was the situation. He has a confidence about him. Players feed off of that," said Fox. "He has done an outstanding job all off-season and so far this camp. I think he is going to be a viable force for this football team."
