| Despite his great size, this versatile Vol is such a fine one-on-one pass defender that he appears likely to start at cornerback this fall after starting at strong safety a year ago. Wherever he starts, Battle looms as one of Tennessee’s key defensive players. 2001 - Started all 13 games at strong safety and fourth on the team in teackles (60) and fifth in big plays (19). Returned a fumble 81 yards for a touchdown against Notre Dame. Intercepted two passes and broke up nine more. 2000 - Regarded as one of the nations top junior college prospects after a standout career at Los Angeles Valley College . A native of West Palm Beach, Fla., he played both wide receiver and defensive back while at LA Valley College. Played wide receiver as a freshman in 1999, and caught 63 passes for 950 yards and 10 touchdowns. ... Played his high school ball at Wellington High in West Palm Beach, where he was a running back in his senior season, gaining better than 900 yards and rushing for 12 touchdowns.
