Solid return-man on punts and kickoffs demonstrating an ability
to gain big yards on the ground while primarily carrying the ball in
third-down situations… Became the first Bear to record a pass attempt, rush
attempt, reception, punt return and kickoff return in the same season since
Curtis Conway in 1994… Signed by Chicago (10/9/01) as an unrestricted free
agent after being out of football since injuring his knee in the 1999
season-opener while playing for the N.Y. Jets… Underwent two knee surgeries
since his injury, sitting out the 2000 season while rehabilitating… Earned
all-rookie team honors from several football publications for his standout
play on special teams and as a reserve running back in 1997… Broke the Jets’
old rookie record with 619 yards on 51 returns as a rookie… Ranks third in
Jets’ career annals with 828 return yards on 81 returns.
College
The only player in Atlantic Coast Conference history to finish his
career ranked in the top-5 in all-purpose yards, scoring, TDs and top-10 in
rushing and receptions… Is the Access all-time leader in career-all-purpose
yards with 5,828…University of North Carolina’s all-time leading scorer with
306 points (50TDs), one TD shy of the ACC record… Earned team MVP honors as
a senior for the nationally ranked Tar Heels… Nicknamed "The Natural"
because he is a virtual standout in every sport he has played… Majored in
