Biography:
Professional
Buchanan started and played in all 16 games for fifth consecutive season in 2001. He led the team in interceptions with five. He also led the team with six interceptions in 2000, and finished third on team in tackles with 99, 3rd highest single-season total in career.

College
A three-year starter for the Louisville Cardinals, he was moved from cornerback to free safety as a freshman. He totaled 273 tackles, 177 solos, 15 interceptions for 159 yards, 13 passes defensed, three fumble recoveries, three fumbles forced, six blocked kicks. He also averaged 9.1 yards on 18 punt returns. Ray closed out his strong collegiate career with 95 tackles, four thefts for 61 return yards, 10 passes defensed, three fumble recoveries, and two forced fumbles. As a junior, he amassed 108 tackles (68 solos), and a school record eight interceptions (for 89 yards). Buchanan was the Fiesta Bowl Defensive MVP versus Alabama with a fumble recovery for a touchdown off a blocked punt and another recovered fumble in a 34-7 victory.
