Pro: Started 12 regular season games at defensive tackle in 2003 for the NFC Champion Carolina Panthers...Accounted for 31 tackles, one forced fumble, half a sack, three batted passes, 11 quarterback hurries...Voted by teammates as defensive captain along with Mike Minter...Member of defensive line that finished second in the NFL in sacks with 32.5...Part of defensive unit that finished eighth in the League in total defense and seventh in sacks per pass attempt...Marked the first time in team history that the defense has ranked in the top 10 in total defense in consecutive seasons...Inactive for four games because of an injured right knee.
Career: First NFL sack came as a rookie with Pittsburgh versus Cincinnati (10/16/94) when he tackled quarterback David Klingler. Key figure on Carolina defense in 2002 that became the only unit since the NFL merger in 1970 to improve from last in the League to second in a span of one season. Registered his first NFL interception and a career-high two sacks versus San Francisco (11/18/01). Produced career highs of 61 tackles and seven sacks for San Francisco in 2000.
College: Left Clemson ranked third in school history with 22 sacks and fourth all-time with 46 tackles for a loss...Established a school record with a 1,220 pound lift on a leg sled...1993 (Sr.): First-team All-ACC selection after leading the team with 6.5 sacks and 10 tackles for a loss and ranking second with 84 stops...1992 (Jr.): Started every contest at nose guard and registered 85 tackles, eight sacks, 18 tackles for a loss and a team-high 18 quarterback pressures...1991 (So.): Tallied 5.5 sacks, 56 tackles, seven quarterback pressures and 10 tackles for a loss...1990 (Fr.): Accounted for 28 tackles and two sacks as a reserve nose guard.
High School: Street & Smith's All-America and all-state selection as a senior defensive tackle at Carver HS in Columbus, GA...Compiled 112 tackles, 16 sacks and 15 forced fumbles, in addition to rushing for 395 yards as a fullback and handling kickoff return duties...Four-year letterman in football...Lettered in basketball, baseball and track for which he claimed the state shot put title. |
