The Panthers have had their most significant defections of the John Fox era, losing QB Coach Mike McCoy, LB Coach Kevin Flajole and DL Coach Sal Sunseri, secondary coach Tim Lewis to other teams, but perhaps the blow was when Defensive Coordinator Mike Trgovac said "thanks, but no thanks" on a two year deal to remain with the Panthers.

McCoy, who will be Denver's new OC, will be replaced by former Browns QB Coach Rip Scherer, who has some ties to current Panthers OC Jeff Davidson.

Flajole is heading to St. Louis to be their new defensive coordinator under new Rams Coach Steve Spganuolo.

Sunseri was Peppers' position coach for all but one season in Carolina and is headed to the college ranks to coach linebackers at Alabama.

Lewis is leaving to be the defensive backs coach of the Seattle Seahawks.

The biggest defection is Trgovac, who initially agreed to a deal yesterday but then informed GM Marty Hurney and John Fox last night that he had changed his mind.

With most of the defensive coaches gone (all but Mike Gillhamer and Sam Mills III have left ... so far), we have to ask why would so many coaches choose to leave the Panthers, who went 12-5 this past season?

Is it that they see the writing on the wall that John Fox isn't as secure as one would think after winning the NFC South and finishing second in the conference?
