The good: Starters and primary backups gave the Carolina Panthers a 13-0 lead over the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday at Lincoln Financial Field. The bad: Bad weather forced a 58-minute delay in the first quarter, pushing the game past midnight. The ugly: Philadelphia scored 24 points in the game's last seven minutes to pull out a 24-13 victory, evening both teams' records at 1-1 in the preseason.

First the lightning struck, then it was Richard Marshall's turn. Marshall's 78-yard touchdown return of a fake field goal attempt by the Eagles with 47 seconds remaining in the first quarter jumpstarted a lethargic Carolina team. Marshall's play came after the long weather delay.

Before the delay, the Eagles had moved the football more effectively than the Panthers in a scoreless game. Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme, who played the first half, completed nine-of-14 passes for 54 yards and one interception. Fortunately for the Panthers, Eagles receivers dropped several passes from counterpart Donovan McNabb, who managed to complete 11-of-24 passes for 98 yards.

The Panthers running game wasn't as effective as it was in the first preseason game. DeAngelo Williams rushed eight times for 32 yards, but 23 of those came on one play.

The first of two John Kasay field goals, from 28 yards out, gave Carolina a 10-0 lead at halftime. His second, from 49 yards, gave them a 13-0 cushion before a mostly empty stadium.

Backup quarterback Matt Moore looked effective for the most part in the second half, completing 11-of-19 passes for 85 yards. He drove the Panthers downfield in the final minutes trailing 17-13, but his pass was tipped and returned 74 yards for a touchdown by the Eagles for the final margin.
