Morgan calls it a career

Dan Morgan

Dan Morgan's injury-plagued career is over. The Panthers former first-round draft pick decided to retire Monday citing frustration over the inability to stay healthy.

"I've been thinking about it for a little while," Morgan said. "I talked to my family. My health is good. But the injuries kept piling up."

Morgan suffered five concussions during his career, but nagging shoulder problems and a partially torn Achilles tendon is what ultimately led him to give up the game he loves.

"The Achilles became a thing where one day it was good and the next it would become aggravated," Morgan said. "The last few offseasons have been rough and I just didn't want to put myself or my family through that anymore."

Morgan said he came to the decision after talking at length with his father, his sister and his wife, Ashleigh.

"I think she's cool with it," Morgan said. "I think she's happy about it. Rehabbing constantly from injuries is not only tough on me, it's tough on her, too. I think my entire family is a little relieved, quite honestly."
